Raymond F. Rentsch, 89, of Plainville, husband of the late Patricia (Brown) Rentsch, passed away Saturday (May 3, 2025) after a brief stay at Jerome Home. Born in New Britain, son of the late Felix and Gertrude Rentsch, he lived in Plainville since 2005. A graduate of New Britain High School, Ray attended the University of Connecticut before leaving to serve in the U.S. Navy for four years. He later returned to UConn to earn his bachelor's degree. Ray worked as a cost accountant for several local companies, including Tuttle & Bailey, Reflexite, and Macristy Industries. In his later years, he worked part-time as a driver for New Britain General Hospital until his official retirement in 2004. He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in New Britain and a devoted fan of UConn Men's and Women's Basketball.
In addition to his love for his family, Ray had a deep appreciation for nature and wildlife. An avid birdwatcher, he was never far from his copy of the Audubon Society Field Guide. He also took interest in tracking bear sightings in the region-even the ones that raided his backyard bird feeders. In his younger years, Ray enjoyed trout fishing from his boat, spending peaceful hours on the water with friends and his son. Ray found joy in quiet beauty-whether observing nature, or simply sitting with a game of solitaire.
Ray is survived by his son, Karl Rentsch, and his wife, Sue, of Unionville; his daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" DeBisschop, and her husband, Kevin, of Farmington; and granddaughters, Haley Rentsch, Sydney DeBisschop, and Lauryn DeBisschop.
A private graveside service for Ray and his wife, Pat, with military honors, will be held at Fairview Cemetery, 120 Smalley Street, New Britain. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Audubon Society, 225 Varick St., New York, NY 10014. Carlson Funeral Home, New Britain, is assisting with arrangements.
