Raymond Frank "Ray" Schulte, 84, of Rockingham, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community.
Mr. Schulte was born on November 11, 1941, in Clarksburg, WV and was a son of the late Frank and Josephine Ella (Gobrick) Schulte. Ray was a captain in the United States Army Transportation Corps and was a Vietnam Veteran. He later worked for Newport News Shipbuilding for more than 35 years prior to his retirement. Mr. Schulte was a member of Vision of Hope United Methodist Church. In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ray was a world history enthusiast. He also enjoyed watching the stock market every day. Ray's greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family and friends.
On October 28, 1966, he married the former Sharon Kay Johnson, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by a son, Brian Vincent Schulte and wife, Kelli of Hampton, VA; a grandson, Tony Howe; and many special friends and extended family members who will greatly miss him.
Mr. Schulte was also preceded in death by a brother, James Schulte.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 1 until 2 p.m., at the Kyger Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., with Pastor Michael Reaves officiating.
Entombment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Vision of Hope United Methodist Church, 1723 Port Republic Road, Harrisonburg, VA, 22801.

Jay and I will always remember the times we shared with Ray and Sharon going all the way back to college days. We will miss him.
