Raymond Anthony Stephens, 85, of Avondale Estates, passed away peacefully in his home on August 17, 2022.
Ray was born March 18, 1937 in Savannah, Georgia. After graduating with a ceramic engineering degree from Georgia Tech in 1960, he worked in the aerospace industry. He later completed a Master of Science in Geophysics at Texas A&M.
In 1957, Ray married Phoebe Vinson Stephens, going on to have 4 children, Brian Stephens, Alison Pittman (Donald), Amanda Maxwell, and Melissa Barnes. He had seven grandchildren, Richard Stephens (Heather), Alex Stephens (Erica), Andy Stephens, Reid Pittman (Marissa), Mary Cate Sharp (Jeremy), Meredith Barnes and Mitchell Barnes. He also had four great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either the Georgia Tech Alumni Association or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
A celebration of Ray s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 21st in the chapel of A.S. Turner and Sons in Decatur, Georgia. A celebration reception will follow for family and friends at Turner & Sons.
