TOWN OF OHIO – Raymond W. Taylor, Jr., 57, of Five Acres Lane, died unexpectedly on April 14, 2022 at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany following an illness he has fought since a vacation in September.
Ray was born on July 13, 1964 in Utica, a son of Raymond and Kathleen (Moran) Taylor. He graduated from Poland Central School in 1983. On June 15, 1991, Raymond was united in marriage with the former Jacqueline A. "Jackie" Hoffman in the Town of Ohio. He was a lifelong auto body technician; he started at the Ed Blask Ford body shop in Barneveld at a young age and later worked at Whitesboro Frame & Body, Utica. Ray was a member of the Ohio Ridge Riders and the Two Foot Club. He enjoyed auto body work, car shows, Ford Mustangs, traveling with Jackie in their RV, being out in nature and throwing back a few.
Ray loved of old country music, you could hear him sing along with the radio while working on his Mustangs and old truck along with enjoying a Bud or shot of Jim Beam. Watch out if Hank Jr, Waylon, or Merle were playing, the twang came out in his voice. His favorite song was Family Tradition by Hank Jr.
Once Ray was not able to enjoy ATV rides or snowmobiling, he loved watching and taking pictures with Jackie off their back porch of the wild animals that passed through their property.
Ray was a quiet man but if you had time for him and were throwing back a few he could talk for hours about vehicles and how to make them look better, American history, and places we saw during our RV travels. He was a wise man!
Survivors besides his parents, Raymond and Kathleen Taylor, include the apple of his eye and his wife of 30 years, Jackie; her six siblings, Robin (Harry) Duncan, Kim Hoffman, Diane Lamphere, Bobby (Jeanette) Hoffman, Kenny (Stephanie) Hoffman, George (Colette) Hoffman; her parents, Robert "Shorty" (Beverly) Hoffman; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. Raymond was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Thomas Hoffman; grandparents, William Ford, Marion (Lowell) Taylor, Oliver Moran, Ethel (Cave) Moran, and Isabel (Lawrance) Moran; and a fur baby, Rosie.
A memorial service will be held at the Ohio Rec. Hall, 140 Nellis Road, Cold Brook, on Sunday, April 24th at 1 pm, with Mr. Richard Chrisman officiating. A celebration of life will follow the service. There will be no public calling hours. Please dress in your dive bar attire. Arrangements are entrusted to the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. Peter's Hospital I.C.U. unit and the 2nd floor for their compassionate care. Please consider donating blood or signing up to be a organ donor in memory of Ray.
