Reba May Stroop, 95, of Elkton, passed away July 17, 2025 at Journeys Crossing Assisted Living in Elkton, VA. Mrs. Stroop was born December 6, 1929 in Rockingham County, VA and was the daughter of the late John Reuben May and Ida Florence Lam May.

In addition to parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur F. Stroop on January 25, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her son, Eugene Franklin Stroop; siblings, Alva May, Eunice Rexrode, Evangeline Monger, and Wilbur May.

Reba was a lifelong member of the Mt. Zion Evangelical United Methodist Church where she served as Treasurer of the Ladies AID. She was a 1946 graduate of McGaheysville High School. Reba was a homemaker and babysat her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, family get-togethers, and she loved ice cream. She retired from American Safety Razor. Reba also liked traveling on bus tours and visiting friends weekly. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by two grandchildren, Krystal Diane Shaffer and husband J.D., Ashley Nicole Reed and husband John; numerous great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and special niece, Karen Monger.

The family will receive friends 1 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McGaheysville with Pastor Dan Bassett officiating.
