Southbridge: Rebecca L. Newell, 66, of Lebanon Hill Rd., passed away on April 8, 2025, after an illness in Rose Monahan Hospice.
Becky is survived by her wife of 25 years, Joan (Deneault) Meissner of Southbridge; her loving daughter, Jennifer Reinhardt of Liverpool, NY; her siblings, Geff F. Newell III and his partner David Rodriguera of Salem, MA and Laura J. Newell-Pilarski and her husband Michael of Canandaigua, NY; her grandchildren, Ashleigh Reinhardt and Matthew Reinhardt; Nephew, Jason Rebrovich and his wife Trisha of Orchard Park, NY and grandnieces and nephew.
She was predeceased by her parents, grandparents, her sister Brenda and son-in-law James "Jim" Reinhardt.
Rebecca was born in Southbridge the daughter of George F. and Sylvia (Pearson) Newell.
She was a graduate of Clarence Senior High School in 1977 and Buffalo State University in 1981, with a B.S. in Criminal Justice.
Becky worked for Ames Department Stores as a Loss Prevention Coordinator and a Loss Prevention District Manager, where she led her region in apprehensions. She then became a Systems Training Specialist in their home office. When Ames closed, Becky moved to BJ's Wholesale Club as a Senior Training Specialist at their Corporate Office.
She was an avid ice hockey player in high school and college and played in the first Women's National Ice Hockey Tournament in 1976. Becky Volunteered as a boy's hockey coach for the Bay State Sharks for 13 years and led her team to the TV round of Mini One-On-One.
She was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots and the Buffalo Bills.
Her other interests included antiques, ancestry, collecting, camping, and cooking.
Calling hours for Becky will be held on Wednesday, April 16th, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a prayer service to follow at 4:00pm in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
The family requests that donations honoring Becky's devotion to youth hockey be made to the Worcester Railers HC, 105 Commercial St., Worcester, MA 01608.
