Reta Darlene McMurtrey, a beloved matriarch and cherished community member, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, at Parkwood Meadows Assisted Living in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Born on February 17, 1933, in Rigby, Idaho, Reta spent her formative years attending schools in her hometown, where she developed lifelong friendships and a deep love for her community.
Reta is remembered for her unwavering strength and nurturing spirit. She was the devoted mother of six sons and two daughters, including Maeleen (Blaine) Nelson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Megan McMurtrey; Dan McMurtrey of Rigby, Idaho; Kevin (Cindy) McMurtrey of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Thomas (Billie) McMurtrey of Idaho Falls, Idaho; J.D. McMurtrey of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Kelly (Carmen) McMurtrey of Louisiana; and Sean McMurtrey. Her legacy extends through her 28 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, who were the joy of her life.
Reta was preceded in death by her husbands, John McMurtrey and Joe McNeil, as well as her son Jeff McMurtrey and two sisters and two brothers. Though she has been separated from her loved ones, the impact of her life and love continues to resonate through the generations she nurtured.
Reta's warmth and kindness will be dearly missed by all who knew her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends as they celebrate a life well-lived.
