SALEM - Retta Sue Lilley, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the age of 72 at her Salem residence.
Born on October 5, 1952, in Hundred, West Virginia, Retta was the beloved daughter of the late Clark and Florence (Yoho) Whan. Her warm presence and nurturing spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Throughout her life, Retta dedicated herself to caring for others as a nursing assistant. Her compassion and empathy made a lasting impact on the many lives she touched. Retta's love for her family was evident in everything she did, and she instilled in them the values of kindness, resilience, and unconditional love.
Retta is survived by her devoted daughter, Florence Lilley, who was the light of her life. Her legacy continues through her grandson, Taylor Whan, and granddaughter, Christina Macedo. Retta was also a proud great-grandmother to Landon, Donna, and Trevor. She leaves behind her sisters, Mary Whan and Marie Whan, who shared in the joys and sorrows of life with her.
Her nieces, Heather and Marsha, and nephews, Travis, Keith, Jason, and Timmy, will remember their aunt as a source of joy and wisdom. Her many great-nieces and great-nephews also held a special place in her heart.
Preceding her in death is her sisters, Sharon Fischer, Patricia Culbertson; brother-in-law, Thomas Culbertson, and a niece, Victoria Lilley.
Retta's life was a testament to the power of caring for others. She approached every day with a smile and left a legacy of love that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A private ceremony will be held to honor Retta's life and the profound impact she had on those she loved. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, and they are grateful for the time they had with her.
