Reuben Gomez Obituary

Reuben proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 22 years. Throughout his distinguished military career, he completed multiple tours in Vietnam and traveled to many countries while serving aboard var-ious aircraft carriers. He especially cherished his time at sea and the lifelong friendships he built with his shipmates, particularly those from the USS Ticonderoga (TICO). His service was recognized with numerous commendations, including five Good Conduct Medals, a Navy Unit Commendation, a Meritorious Unit Citation, a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Battle np Ribbon.
Following his retirement as a Senior Chief Petty Officer, Reuben continued his commitment to service by working as the Contracting Official for the Fuels Division at China Lake Naval Weapons Center. His expertise and dedication earned him many accolades as he played an instrumental role in designing the new Fuels Facility at China Lake.
Beyond his professional achievements, Reuben was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in fly fishing, trap shooting, and hunting. He had a deep passion for sports and took great pride in watching his sons compete at all levels. This love extended to his grandchildren as he relished every opportunity to cheer them on just as he had done for their fathers. A devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees, Reuben never missed a chance to support his favorite teams especially when it came to Navy football.
Reuben was known by many names-Pops, Dad, Uncle, Tio, Senior, "The Watcher" (his WaveHog Beach name), and most affectionately by his family as Tata. He was a kind and gentle man who was always willing to lend a hand or offer advice when asked. His family was his greatest joy in life. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and his great-granddaughter Avery brought an extra sparkle to his days with her visits that never failed to brighten his world.
Reuben is survived by his sons Reuben P. Gomez Jr. and John A. Gomez; grandchildren Alicia R. Gomez, Rachael R. Gomez, and Reuben P. Gomez Ill; great-granddaughter Avery Christene Jacobson; sister Edna Gunn; and sister-in-law Carmen Gomez. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Lydia Gomez, parents, and brothers Jack Gomez and Al Gomez.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Hope City Church, located at 800 W Upjohn Ave., Ridgecrest, California. Following the service, Reuben will be laid to rest alongside Lydia at Desert Memorial Park. A reception will take place from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Patriots Bar and Grille, 117 E Ridgecrest Blvd., Ridgecrest, California.
Reuben's legacy of service, love for family, and unwavering kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Tio,
As I write this, it's hard to believe you have gone onto the great ship in the heavens. You served you country with honor and pride. Tia Lydia and you had wonderful and loving marriage, an example for all of us. We weren't ready for you to go, but we know that now you are at peace and with your beloved Lydia. Until we meet again, know how much you will be missed, and how much you were loved while we had you.
