Rev. Leon Keith Carpenter Sr.

1930 - 2024

Rev. Leon Keith Carpenter, Sr. gained his angel wings on July 29th, 2024. He was born on August 14th, 1930 in Galvez, LA where he resided for 93 years. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Alda Chastain Carpenter & four children; Millie (Gerald) Moore, Keith (Debbie) Carpenter, Sue (Allen) Herring and Kirby (Dene) Carpenter, 11 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter, his brother Carroll (Noelie) Carpenter and sister Bonnie Broussard. He was preceded in death by his father & mother, Clint and Lucille Carpenter and sisters, Dottie, Helen, Ruth and Cleo and daughter in law Julie Carpenter. He honorably served in the US Army and was a Baptist minister for 50+ years. He helped establish Dutchtown Baptist Church and he served as pastor at many churches over the years. He retired from Ormet Corp and is a member of the Gonzales American Legion. The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice for the love and care they showed our entire family. A funeral service will be held for Rev. Leon on Thursday, August 1st, 2024 at Ascension Baptist Church 13432 Airline Hwy. Gonzales, LA. Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM with a religious service at 11:00 AM. Once concluded, a procession to Carpenter's Chapel Cemetery AKA Galvez Community Cemetery will commence. Pallbearers will seven of Leon's grandsons.
