It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of Ricardo Filipe Barbosa who passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on December 14, 2024 at the age of 48 years old. Ricardo was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend that left us too soon. Ricardo had a captivating and radiant smile along with a contagious positive energy and a generous personality that everyone adored and respected.
Ricardo was a loving husband to Suzana "Susaninha" for 22 years. He leaves behind his two precious daughters, Maria Beatriz and Ana Carolina. His love for his wife and daughters was so deep and unique. Ricardo met the love of his life, Suzana "online" in 2001 and they got married the following year in 2002 in Portugal. They lived in Lisbon, Portugal for 14 years and moved to the United States in 2016 where they resided in Newington, CT.
Ricardo had a very strong bond and adoration for his mother, Maria de Lurdes Cabaça who he deeply trusted and respected.
Ricardo was born on November 20, 1976 to Maria de Lurdes Cabaça and Filipe Barbosa in Lisbon, Portugal. Ricardo grew up in Lisbon. He graduated from Lusíada University with a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources and a Master's degree in IT from Lusófona University. Ricardo was currently working at Corporate Systems Associates in Windsor, CT as an IT Director doing what he mostly loved in IT. Ricardo was an active member of Our Lady of Fátima Church and the Portuguese Community.
Ricardo had a strong passion for music and enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. He would always play his guitar during special family occasions and entertained them by playing their favorite songs.
Ricardo is predeceased by his step-father, António Inácio Cabaça, his grandfathers and his grandmothers. In addition to his wife and daughters, he is survived by his mother, Maria de Lurdes Cabaça; his father, Filipe Barbosa; his in-laws, Armando Almeida and Belmira Almeida; his step-siblings, Miguel Cabaça and Rita Cabaça; his brother and sister-in-law, Nuno Sénica and Ana Sénica; and his niece and nephew, Joanna Sénica and Michael Sénica.
A very special and warm felt thank you to his family and friends who have supported Ricardo unconditionally during this difficult time of illness and fight against cancer. A special thank you to all the doctors and nurses at Hartford Hospital, Dana-Farber, and the Hartford Hospital Hospice Care team who have accompanied Ricardo throughout this difficult health battle.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 18, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane St., Hartford.
