Robert "Bob" Sheltz, 89, of West Hartford, beloved husband of the late Lorraine A. Sheltz, a cherished father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2025, after a brief illness. Bob's vibrant life came to a peaceful close at Middlesex Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on August 9, 1935, in Hartford, son of the late Stanley and Victoria (Mokriski) Sheltz, Bob grew up in a lively household and attended Hall High School in West Hartford. Early in life, he demonstrated a strong sense of duty and service, which led him to enlist in the Air Force. After honorably serving his country, Bob returned to his roots in West Hartford, where he became a dedicated firefighter, a vocation he performed with passion and bravery for many years, retiring in 1993.

Bob was a man of great faith and lived his life as an embodiment of Christian values. He was known for his witty sense of humor, his incredible knack for fixing just about anything, and his selfless nature, always putting the needs of others before his own.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Bob's enthusiasm for the Red Sox, Patriots and College Basketball was infectious. He shared countless games and lively discussions with friends and family, creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Bob's legacy is carried on by his devoted children, Robert Sheltz of West Hartford, and Lisa Sheltz and her Life Partner Daniel Allen of Hartford. His joyous spirit will forever be remembered by his adoring grandchildren, Ryan D. Sheltz and Emily L. Sheltz, who brought immense happiness to his later years. Bob is also survived by his siblings: Elizabeth S. Dunn and her husband the late Honorable Philip R. Dunn of West Hartford, Paul R. Sheltz and his wife Patricia Sheltz of Avon, and Victoria S. Carey and her husband John N. Carey of West Hartford.

Bob's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends. His life was a testament to the joy that can be found in simplicity, the strength in kindness, and the enduring power of laughter.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to The Miracle League of Connecticut, 68 S. Main St. BSMT 100, West Hartford, CT 06107 or to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center, c/o Connecticut Children's Foundation, Inc., PO Box 412901, Boston, MA 02241-2901.
