Richard Beadle

Husband, Father, Leader, Friend

1933–2025

Richard Beadle, longtime resident of Grosse Pointe, passed away peacefully on September 17. He was 92.

Richard is survived by his two daughters, Julie Heidt and Jane Owen, and by his grandchildren: Katie (Anthony) Kirk, Will (Brenna) Owen , Teddy (Ryan) Heidt , and Bess (Charles) Motschall . He was a proud great-grandfather to Harper and Hayden Kirk, and Quinn and Rory Owen. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and partner in all things, Peggy Beadle, who passed away in 2018.

In 1975, Richard and Peggy founded TEC Detroit, now Vistage Michigan, a leadership community based on peer advisory and mentorship. More than a business, Vistage Michigan became a circle of care for their members and chairs. Richard's leadership remains the foundation of Vistage Michigan-a legacy built on his unwavering belief that when people come together, they become stronger.

Prior to establishing TEC Detroit, Richard was involved in the field of public education for 15 years, he taught at Southlake High School and Grosse Pointe North High School. He holds a Bachelor's of Art. from Western Michigan University and a Master's degree in Education from Wayne State University.

Richard was a legendary figure in his community and a connector of people. He believed deeply in helping others, especially those less fortunate. His generosity was matched only by his love for making others laugh. He remained in pursuit of laughter throughout his life and delighted in bringing joy to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with limericks and playful antics. He had the unique ability to bring depth or levity to any room, depending on what the situation called for.

He was a man of many passions: sailing on his cherished boat, Sankaty; riding Harley Davidson motorcycles; playing softball as a pitcher; and admiring cars of all kinds. But above all, he loved his family fiercely and unconditionally. His role of "Baba" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was most cherished, and he never missed an opportunity to celebrate and support them.

Richard and Peggy were devoted members of Christ Church Grosse Pointe. In 1968, he volunteered in the Christ Church Miller Hall after school youth drop-in center, where he was adored for creating a space of curiosity and community. Many of the former Miller Hall members remained a fixture in his life, a testament to the lasting impact he made.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Church Grosse Pointe on October 4 at 11am, with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard's memory may be made to Alternatives for Girls.
