Richard Henry Belzer, aged 72, passed away on April 20, 2025, at his home in Lake Zurich, Illinois. Born on July 8, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois, Richard was a man whose warm heart and infectious laugh touched many lives.
Richard grew up in Chicago, where he was nurtured by his loving parents, Henry and Alice, who preceded him in death, as did his cherished Aunt Shirley and a sister Janet. His early life in the bustling city laid the foundation for a lifetime of friendships, a love for sports, and a sense of community that would characterize his years.
Dedicated to his family, Richard is survived by his children, Scott and his wife Michelle, Christopher and his wife Jennifer, and Kelly and her husband Ken. He was "Papa" to seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Richard's legacy of love and laughter also lives on through the mother of his children, Nancy, and a host of other family members and friends who felt his warmth and kindness. Rich had 3 friends, Don, "Zeke" and Fred who remained best friends for over 50 years. They would always go on golf outings and out to lunch.
Richard's passion for sports was undeniable. He was an avid golfer and basketball enthusiast, and his commitment to sportsmanship shone brightly through his role as a referee for the Illinois High School Association. He also channeled his love of sports into coaching his sons' baseball team, where he became a role model and mentor to many young athletes.
For over 35 years, Richard served as a dedicated employee of United Airlines. His career allowed him to explore new horizons, leading to many family vacations in beloved places like Eagle River and various destinations around the world. These travels became cherished memories for Richard and his family, each trip an adventure spurred by his spontaneous spirit.
Richard was a man of many tales, and with his natural gift for storytelling, he was known to captivate any room. He carried the rare and beautiful ability to turn strangers into friends, believing that he had simply not met them yet. His playful nature was evident in his love of pranks, a trait that brought laughter and joy to those around him.
Beyond his public passions and pursuits, Richard was a tender-hearted man at home. He lovingly nicknamed his daughter "Blue Eyes," a term of endearment that spoke volumes of his gentle soul. To describe Richard as loving, friendly, and spontaneous only begins to scratch the surface of a man whose essence was defined by his profound capacity to love and connect with people.
Richard's character was the essence of what it means to be passionate. He approached every aspect of his life with a full heart and open arms. His gentle presence and loving nature made him a pillar in the lives of those who knew him, and his passion was a guiding force that will continue to inspire his family and friends.
Today, as we reflect on Richard's life, we are reminded of the beauty of a life well-lived. He was a man who made everyday count, who loved deeply, and who embraced the world with open arms. Richard Henry Belzer will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will remain alive in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Richard's life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and the joy of human connection. As we say goodbye, we celebrate a life that was full, vibrant, and truly well-lived. His memory will be cherished forever as a source of light and love.

I am so sorry Dick to see that you passed away. Growing up we were such good friends because your parents and mine (Everett and Marilyn Rude) were such good friends. My Dad and sister Kathy passed away and we had it here at Justen's where I last saw your sister Janet who used to babysit us and always wanted to play with my Barbie dolls. You and I always had fun together whether at your house or ours and would joke about growing up and getting married. Happy we both did and had children (2 sons). I wished we could have met again, but shocked that I found your obituary by looking for my Mom's who just died on Sunday, May 18th. Even after all these years I still remember àll the good times and laughs we shared. Rest in peace!
