Richard E. Black, age 65 of Perry, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at the University of Michigan, Sparrow Campus in Lansing. A memorial gathering will be held from 3-5:00 PM on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 214 S. Main St., Perry, MI 48872.
Born on March 29, 1960, in Lansing, Michigan, to parents Warren and Marlene (Mose) Black, Richard's early years were spent in the welcoming community of Perry, Michigan. He attended Perry High School graduating with the Class of 1979, where he formed many lifelong friendships.
Richard's journey through life was marked by his dedication to his family. He is survived by his parents, who watched him grow into an extraordinary man, his children, Melissa Black and James (Heather) Black, who were the pride of his life, and his adored grandson, Colton, who brought him immeasurable joy. His step-grandchildren, Lauren and Landon, will also treasure memories of their grandfather. Richard's siblings, Dennis Black, Larry Black, and Karen Cole, remember him for all the fun and support he offered. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Doris and Ivan Black, his brother, Leo Black, his nephew, Douglas Wayne Briggs, his brother-in-law, Jeff Cole, his sister-in-law, Mary Black, and his beloved dog, Socks, who were undoubtedly there to welcome him with open arms.
For more than 28 years, Richard was a steadfast employee at Wohlerts, where his colleagues respected him for his dependability and experience.
Richard's interests were a reflection of his love for life and nature. He found peace and happiness in the great outdoors, whether it was a quiet morning spent fishing or a day tracking deer through the woods. His knowledge of the wilderness was extensive, a testament to the many hours he spent surrounded by the beauty of nature.
Those who knew Richard will remember him for his quick wit and his ability to find humor in any many situations. He had a knack for storytelling that could light up any room, and his laughter was infectious.
Richard E. Black lived a life that was full, not of years, but of moments that were rich with love and laughter. Richard reminds us to cherish the simple things in life, and to always extend a hand to those in need.
