Richard Bridge Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc. - Canandaigua on Aug. 21, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Middlesex - Richard "Dick" "Richie" Ivan Ver Bridge, age 88, has gone home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ, on Sunday, August 17, 2025. He is survived by his son, Vance VerBridge; daughter, Vanessa (Chris) Cordes, five grandchildren, Cassondra (Alexander) Ellsworth, James Coryea, Lauren Coryea, Brandon (Justina) Coryea and Jared (Ashley) Coryea; and his beloved brother, Arnold Ver Bridge. Richard was predeceased by his mother, Anna (Elliott) Verbridge Fires; and father, Ivan VerBridge.

Richard was known for his quick wit and endless supply of corny jokes. He had the gift of gab when it came to the Lehigh Valley Railroad, motorcycles and Ford trucks. Richard was a mechanical genius and worked until his dying day restoring antique tractors and steam engines. He found immense joy in expanding his knowledge about history in all its facets and sharing his wisdom with family and friends. In his younger years, Richard briefly served in the Marine Corps and worked in construction running bulldozers and pans. One of Richards favorite stories to share took place in the mid 1960s, running his dozer to excavate the steep slopes of what is now Bristol Mountain. He was a gifted musician and could often be found joining in at bluegrass gatherings near and far. Richard was a lifelong member of the Pageant of Steam and devoted to the Lord.

His graveside service will be held Friday, August 29, at 11am, at Marion Cemetery, 3915 N. Main St., Marion. Arrangements are by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., Canandaigua. Condolences may be offered at www.johnsonkennedy.com.
