Richard Lloyd Bunker Jr.

Richard (Dick) Lloyd Bunker Jr., age 91, passed away on December 30, 2025, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Dick was born in Evergreen Park, Illinois to Richard and Minnie Bunker on November 5, 1934. The family moved to Douglas, Arizona in 1944 and then to Alamogordo, New Mexico in 1948.
Dick graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1953 and then moved to Portales, New Mexico to attend Eastern New Mexico University. Dick married Nancy Holcomb on September 1, 1956. In 1958 Dick graduated from ENMU, with a Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education in Industrial arts. After graduating from ENMU, Dick was drafted into the United States Army in 1958 and served for two years in Columbus, Ohio. The family moved back to Alamogordo, New Mexico where Dick worked for a government contractor at Holloman Air Force Base for 14 years. In 1975, Dick began his teaching career at the Alamogordo Mid High School where he taught Industrial Arts. He became Department Head and taught drafting and wood shop for 19 years until he retired in 1994.
He enjoyed working in his garage that was packed full of wood working tools. He made numerous wooden bowls, knife blocks, cutting boards, bookcases, and coffee tables for family and friends.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Minnie Bunker, his wife Nancy Bunker, and his brother Warren Bunker. He is survived by his son Richard Lloyd Bunker III, his son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Sharon Bunker, his sister Dorothy Everett, his brother and sister-in-law Marvin and Joyce Bunker, his sister and brother-in-law Darlene and Tommy Gilmore, and their families. He is also survived by his grandchildren Nolan Bunker, Taylor Bunker, Dawson Hunt, Dustin Hunt, Destiny Romero and their families.
A private family memorial graveside service will be held at the Monte Vista Cemetery in Alamogordo. Should friends desire, contributions may be made to the animal shelter Alamogordo Animal Control.
