Lincoln - Richard "Dick" A. Calderone, 81, of River Road, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at his home. He was the loving husband of Mary Lynn (Dorsh) Calderone, with whom he shared the past thirty-six years.
Dick was born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Thomas and Hilda (Nunes) Calderone, and resided in Lincoln for the past thirty-two years. Following high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge from the service, he dedicated forty years as a skilled millwright at Osram/Sylvania in Central Falls, working diligently until his well-earned retirement.
An avid enthusiast of classic cars, especially Corvettes, Dick was a dedicated member of the Corvette Club. He delighted in the sleek lines and raw power of these timeless machines, taking pleasure in sharing his passion with others. His love for these vehicles symbolized his appreciation for craftsmanship, beauty, and the preservation of history.
Throughout his adult life, Dick was an avid sports fan. His love of NASCAR and anything with four wheels was known by all. He also loved to cheer on his beloved New York Giants football team.
In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by his sister, Sharon Rusk of McLean, Virginia. His sisters-in-law, Linda D. Gaspar of Lincoln, RI and Lorraine Duminico of Buffalo, NY. His niece, Leah (Gaspar) Marini and her husband Dennis J. Marini of Lincoln, RI as well as 2 nieces and 2 nephews in Buffalo, NY.
His funeral will be held Monday, January 22, 2024 in the Redwood Chapel at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence. Burial with military honors will follow. Family and friends are invited. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dick's memory to the Providence Animal Rescue League, 34 Elbow Street, Providence, RI 02903 would be appreciated. Recognizing Dick's love for animals and his compassionate nature, these contributions will honor his legacy and support a cause that held a special place in his heart.
