Richard C. "Dick" Callaway

Dick Callaway was called home to be with his Lord and Savior July 3, 2023 at the age of 84 with his wife and daughter by his side. He was born September 22, 1938 in Auburn, AL to Max and Mary Hearn Callaway. He has lived in Pensacola, FL most of his life attending schools in Warrington and graduated Pensacola High School in 1958 and later Pensacola Junior College.
Dick was a member of Warrington Baptist Church for many years where he trusted Jesus as his personal Savior and served as a deacon since the age of 29. He then became a member at Gateway Baptist Church where he was always actively involved.
Dick was a civil service employee at NAS for 38 years and loved the historical aspect of his work there. He was instrumental in restoring the Pensacola Lighthouse Keepers quarters and was President emeritus of the Pensacola Lighthouse Association. When Dick retired from NAS in 1998 he was honored with an "on call" not normally done for civilian employees stating that "as Dick Callaway walked out the gate for the last time he was taking a lot of history with him."
Dick leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years, Sue Callaway, his daughter, Laura Crews (James) and 4 grandchildren, Ricks Crews, Becca Fendlason (Tyler), Hudson Callaway and Dillan Callaway, and 2 great-grandchildren, Elliot Baker and Ava Fendlason and 2 loved-as grandchildren, Chloe and Silas Odom. Also many brothers and sisters in law, nieces and nephews who were special to him and a very special family friend, Millie Prades who was considered family.
Dick was predeceased by his daughter, Traci Lyn Callaway (Rusty), his parents, and 3 brothers, Bill, Jim (Erin) and Bob (Barbara).
Service will be conducted at Pensacola Memorial Gardens on Friday, July 7, 2023 with visitation for the family from 12:30 until 1:00 and for the public from 1:00 until 2:00. The service will begin at 2:00 and end with the committal in the chapel due to weather conditions. Pastor Wallace Nichols at Gateway Baptist will conduct the services.
Pallbearers will be family members, Hudson Callaway, grandson, Roland Koomen, brother in law, Eddie Driver, Mike Driver, Barry Joyner, and Wesley Joyner, nephews.
