Irma Lorene Hamilton Lloyd

1926-2025

Irma Lorene Hamilton Lloyd, age 99 and 189 days, of Milton, FL, went to be with her Lord on the evening of August 18, 2025.

She was born to James W. & Victoria I. (Fleming) Hamilton on February 10, 1926, in a small house located in Munson, Florida, where her mother was attended by a midwife (a twin boy was also born but did not survive).

Residing in Pensacola, having moved there within the year after her birth, her family eventually consisted of her parents, two older sisters, and two younger sisters (and another younger sister who died in infancy). Her father was primarily a carpenter, moving wherever he could find work, especially during the 30s and 40s. His work took him and his family to the Navy yards in Norfolk, VA, at times and sometimes he found work back here in Pensacola, at NAS and sometimes working in the old Pensacola "Crystal Icehouse". Irma graduated from Pensacola High School in 1944 and started working with Sears and Roebuck as a secretary in downtown Pensacola. She would take her lunch at the Woolworth Five and Dime lunch counter getting an egg salad sandwich and coffee for a quarter.

The family moved back to Norfolk, VA, in the late 40's, where, encouraged by one of her girlfriends, she went on a blind date and met the man she would marry in 1950, William Alvis Lloyd. They eloped on December 28, 1950, and were married by a Justice of the Peace in Laurens, SC.

They resided in North Carolina, near the Lloyd family dairy farm, with William working as a milkman in Mebane, Greensboro, Durham, Chapel Hill area after he left the Airforce. He served during the Korean War as Military Police. Three children were born in North Carolina (Deborah "Debbie", Victoria "Vickie", and Patti) during the nine years they resided there prior to moving to Pensacola, FL, where Irma's family lived. William took work once again as a milkman and Irma was a stay-at-home mom. They had two more children (Conni and William Alvis, Jr.). Irma and William resided in Pensacola for 56 years, until William Sr.'s passing in 2016, when Irma came to live (at the age of 90) with Conni and her husband, Danny, in Milton, FL, not far from Munson where her journey in this life began.

Irma was preceded in death by her parents, James W. Hamilton and Victoria Inez (Fleming) Hamilton of Pensacola; her husband of 65 ½ years, William A. Lloyd, Sr. of Pensacola; her daughter, Patti (Lloyd) Cunningham, of Pensacola; and her daughter, Deborah Lloyd, of Vernon, FL.

She is survived by her daughters, Victoria Hodges (Terry) of Winston Salem, NC, and Conni Carnley (Danny) of Milton, FL; son, William A Lloyd, Jr. (Linda) of Alexandria, VA; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Services will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery with Reverend Danny Carnley officiating at a future date and time to be determined.
