Retired Police Chief Richard Lee "Dicky" Carreker, 76, of Barnesville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Eternal Hope Hospice.

Dicky was born on November 5, 1948, in Zebulon, Georgia to the late Homer B. Carreker and Barbara "Bobbie" English Carreker. Dicky had a long, rewarding career in law enforcement, spanning over 50 years. He formerly worked for the City of Griffin and Spalding County Sheriff's Department, Georgia State Patrol, Milner Police Department, Barnesville Police Department as the Chief of Police, and Gordon State College. He was an avid University of Tennessee football fan. Dicky was also a coach, umpire, and referee for the Dixie Youth Sports of Lamar County.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Carla Carreker; children and their spouses, Shane Carreker, Jared and Bailey Wilson, Katie and Matt McDaniel, Cathy and Tim Wall, Pam Kelly, David and Tammy Oien, and Danny Oien; grandchildren, Dawson Carreker and Harland McDaniel; two great-grandsons; sisters and brother-in-law, Judy and Bob Garrett and Cullen Barnes; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, August 10, 2025, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the Lamar County Schools Fine Arts Center, located at 100 Burnette Road, Barnesville, GA 30204, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm. Pastor James King will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the funeral home to assist with expenses.
