Richard E. "Dick" Comly, of Hatboro, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 14, 2024. He was 81. Dick was born in Abington, PA to PhyllisM. (Feeney) and Elwood Comly. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Janice (Ford), and he is survived by his sons, Chris (Michele) and James "Jim" (Christina); grandchildren, Kristin, Alison (Ryan Hamblin), and William; great grandchildren, Jordan, Brooklyn, Kane, Mackenzie and Liliana Comly as well as his sisters Barbara Corrigan and Cindy Comly.
Dick grew up in Cheltenham, PA where he attended Cheltenham High School. After graduation in 1960, Dick enlisted in the United States Air Force, and was eventually stationed at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, OK. Dick served as a flight instructor at Vance, and it was at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Enid where he met the love of his life Janice Ford. Dick and Janice's first son Christopher was born in Enid in 1964, and shortly after, the family moved back to the Philadelphia area where Dick served in the National Guard. A few years later, Dick and Janice purchased a house in Hatboro, where their second son Jim was born, and was their home for the next 56 years.
After moving back to Philadelphia, Dick started working in the family business where he quickly learned the machinist trade. Dick worked and eventually ran the family business until he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2016. In addition to being a self-taught machinist, salesman, and company executive, Dick was also had many hobbies and past times such as woodworking, photography, sailing, amateur "Ham" radio, antique cars, target shooting, and camping, and both he and Janice loved meeting people through these hobbies. Nothing made the couple happier than visiting and sharing stories among friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to Dick's Life Celebration on Saturday February 3, 2024 from 10 to 11:30 AM at McGhee Givnish Funeral Home, 690 Belmont Ave., Southampton, PA. Services will begin at 11:30. Burial will be in Oklahoma at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the Comly family by visiting mcgheegivnish.com.
Having seen such a vibrant, fun-loving, kind, and giving person succumb to Alzheimer's disease, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in the following link: STOP ALZHEIMER'S or act.alz.org Please make donations in memory of "Richard Comly" as the Estate will match all contributions.
