Grafton - Richard L. Covell, 61, of Grafton, NY, passed away unexpectedly at his home on November 5, 2025. Born in Cohoes, NY, he was the beloved son of William R. Covell and Rosemary M. (Devine) Covell. Rich was raised in Poestenkill before settling in Grafton in 1990, where he proudly built a beautiful log cabin for his family with the help of his father and brother.
A 1983 graduate of Averill Park High School, Rich began his career at Lydall Manning Paper Mill, working side by side with his father and brother for 30 years. He later joined GE Vernova in Schenectady, where he continued to form lasting friendships that meant the world to him.
Rich was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing with his devoted best friends Jack, Nate, Dave A., Joe S., Danny B., Ray, Vince, Mick, Rob, Dan P., and their families. He especially cherished weekends and summers at his family's camp in Schroon Lake, a place he hoped to retire to and spend more time surrounded by those he loved most. Above all, Rich adored his precious "Maevie Lou," who brought him endless happiness and laughs.
Known for his kindness, humor, and generosity, Rich had a gift for making friends wherever he went. He was always ready to lend a hand and would do anything for those in need. His genuine heart and infectious spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Rich is survived by his loving wife, Kelly Covell, his son, Justin Covell, his brother, William Covell, nephews Billy and Dan, and his Australian Cattle dog Abby. Predeceased by his Mother, Father, and Brother Kevin. He also leaves behind many cherished family members and friends who will hold his memory close forever.
Honoring Rich's wishes, the family will hold a celebration of his life in the spring.
