Richard Lee "Dick" Davis, 79, of Clayton, IL, passed away Monday, December 15, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Born November 11, 1946, in Brown County, IL, Richard was a son of Harold "Toad" Eugene Davis and Elizabeth Lamma of Clayton; one of eight children, five of whom preceded him in death, including Ronald Davis of Clayton, Pat Tuter (Mike) of Quincy, Connie Hicks (Larry) of Clayton, Lynn Powell (Terry) of Quincy, and Doris "Dory" Ungelsbee (Roger) of Quincy. He is survived by his sister Donna Bence of Quincy, his brother, Jim Davis (Lenora) of Quincy, and his sister-in-law, Sandra Davis.

Richard is additionally survived by his eight children: daughter, Diana Lee Davis of Peotone, IL, stepson, Steven Lord (Diana) of Clayton, and stepdaughter, Sharon Lord of Quincy, from his first marriage with Joyce Saylor Lord.

On December 3, 1982, he married Linda Davis joyfully gaining two more stepsons, Everett Dean (Joyce) of Clayton and Eugene Dean of Quincy and three stepdaughters, Carrie Yates of Clayton, Vanessa Davis (Darren) of Clayton, and Tonya Dean of Quincy, whom he raised and was very close to and her daughter, Leah.

Richard was also blessed with two grandchildren from Diana, nineteen beloved step-grandchildren, and many precious great-grandchildren, along with many loved nieces and nephews.

Richard worked at Moorman Manufacturing for over a decade, helped at the Clayton Station alongside his brother, Ronald, and also worked at Couch's Filling Station. Then he finished his working years at the Clayton Orchard. Richard also worked many side jobs, always being one to lend a hand to a friend or to family. He was a cherished friend to many.

In his younger years, Richard enjoyed playing guitar and doing activities such as fishing, hunting, and camping with his family. Especially his children, Steven and Diana, his brothers-in-law, and his nephews, Darren, Devin, Larry, and Jaime. Many great stories come from those happy times at Cedar Lake, Clayton Lake, Bizz's Campground, and the Clayton woods.

Richard was an avid lover of all animals, always bringing home a new stray, from dogs to a baby pig named Wilbur.

Richard spent the last of his glory days watching westerns, listening to old country music, doing word books, or frolicking in his yard. He enjoyed sitting with Linda, his lovely wife of 43 years, and his beloved dog, Rose. They sat in their chairs, enjoying life, watching birds, squirrels, and the goings on down the road.

Now Richard has ascended to the road of Heaven, a forever hero in our hearts. A treasured husband, a worshipped grandpa, and missed, but never forgotten, cherished soul.

In addition to his siblings, Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Mike Bence, and his son-in-law, John Yates.
