Richard Dowding Obituary
Passed away February 6, 2024, at the age of 66. Rick was born on September 7, 1957, in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, the son of Orville "Chuck" and Dorotha (Petty) Dowding. He graduated from Jackson Northwest High School where he played football and baseball. Later in life, Rick became a football, baseball and wrestling coach for Jackson Northwest Schools. He had many different jobs over the years, machinist, farmer and butcher to name a few. Rick enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, stonemasonry, karate and processing game.
He is survived by his children, Ronald Dowding of Onondaga, Mary (Brandon Coppernoll) Dowding of Leslie, Shannon Murray of Tompkins Center; grandchildren, Leigha Christ, Austin Murray, Ashlyn Murray, Axel Murray, Airian Murray; special nephew, Cody Garland, Derek Kidder; siblings, Sharyn (Tom) Cahill, Lynda (Bill) Gokay; mother of his children, Margaret Dowding. Rick was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ricky Dowding; brother, Randy Dowding.
Funeral Services will be held at the Mills Funeral Home, Shelly-Odell Chapel in Eaton Rapids on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 11:00 am. Visitation will take place Thursday from 6-8 pm and one hour prior to the service. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in loving memory of Richard Kent Dowding. During our junior and senior years of high school, Rick was the center on our football team and I was the right guard. He was always ready to do battle even with the biggest person on the other team.
