Richard P. Ellena

Richard "Dick" P. Ellena, 91, of Rockford, IL passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2022. He was born November 20, 1930, in Rockford, IL the son of Beatrice (Brocheau) and Peter Ellena. Richard attended Rockford West High School, graduating in 1948. Richard married Charlotte Heflin on September 19, 1974. He worked as a telephone repairman for Illinois Bell until his retirement, a job he was very proud of. Richard then worked for several years at the Rockford Park District. Richard was an optimistic man and was always willing to help others in need. He was passionate about his gardening and his personal fitness. Richard was the longest tenured member of Peak Fitness, exercising well into his 80's. He also enjoyed wood finishing and painting. Most of all Richard loved the time he spent with his family. He will be forever remembered as a great guy and a loving husband father, stepfather, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Charlotte Heflin Ellena; sons, Mark Ellena, and Michael (Janet) Ellena; stepson, Paul "Tom" (Rebecca) Maier; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Peter, and Beatrice; and his stepson, Danny (Patricia) Maier.
