Richard John Embardo, 65, from Encino, CA, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025 in the presence of his sister, his brother-in-law, and close friend. He fought long and hard to survive a heart attack and a stroke and was winning until things suddenly went downhill.
Richard was born in Waterbury, CT to Robert and Helen Embardo (nee Valashinas). He leaves his sisters and their spouses Corinne and Ian Greenshields of Mansfield CT and Ellen Embardo and Lawrence Goodheart of Hampton, CT. His brother Robert predeceased Richard 20 years ago and his widow Peggy Embardo of Wallingford, CT remains a cherished family member. Richard is also survived by his niece Marie Hodrinsky and her husband Todd; by his niece Anna Goodheart; by his nephew Robert D. Embardo; and by his grand-niece Abigail Hodrinsky and his grand-nephew Tyler Hodrinsky. In addition, he is survived by his beloved Aunt Carole Embardo Hunt and many cousins.
Richard attended the University of Connecticut before transferring to the University of Southern California, where he earned his B.F.A. in Theater. During his time at USC he was one of five students chosen to study with the Royal Shakespeare Company in London, United Kingdom. He went on to act in film and stage, but devoted much of his time to directing solo stage performances. He won awards both for his acting and directing.
Richard later attended the Cal. State Northridge where he obtained certification in education. Richard developed a passion for teaching at the elementary level, and was teaching at the Haskell STEAM Magnet school in Granada Hills, CA, at the time of his passing.
Richard was an accomplished cook known for his enthusiasm for all things culinary, and was much appreciated for his themed dinners he shared with friends.
Richard will be sorely missed by all of his family and close friends, all of whom adored him.
The family wishes to thank the medical staff at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in L.A. and especially to his two long-time and close friends Mark Haines and Kevin Sifuentes, both of whom have been of enormous help during and after Richard's illness.
There will be no viewing but a Memorial Gathering and Celebration of Life is planned for a later time.
If you wish to honor Richard, it would be quite nice to make a donation to your favorite charity in his name.
