Richard (Dick) J Faro, age 84, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2025. Born on March 8, 1940, in Sodus, New York. Dick received his Bachelor's degree in Education at SUNY Brockport, and Master's in Earth Science from Cornell University. In 1967 he was offered a job and moved to Evanston IL where he taught at Evanston High School for 35 years. Dick was an avid fisherman, gardener, photographer, storyteller and astronomy enthusiast. When his children were young, Dick traveled with his family to many National Parks with a pop-up camper. Once his children were grown, Dick and his beloved wife, Gloria, enjoyed traveling in their RV, wintering in Gulf Shores, AL and cruising to many parts of the world.
Dick is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gloria, children Marie [John] Armstrong, Rick [Beth] and Karen [Arnold Cooney] Davis and grandchildren Tristan, Jack, Meghan, Thomas, William, and Paige. He is preceded in death by his brother Thomas, nieces Linda and Kathy, nephew Dan and son-in-law William. Dick will be greatly missed by his sister, Lucille and many nieces and nephews.
He touched the lives of many through teaching Earth Science and volunteering his time through SPREAD. Dick was active in the Deerfield Optimist Club for many years. Dick will be remembered by many for his love of fishing.
A funeral service will be held at Kelley & Spalding on February 7, 2025. Visitation from 2pm-4pm, with a celebration of life starting at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Mercy Home for Boys and Girls.
