Richard L. Fitting, age 76, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024, at the local hospital. Memorial Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Pastor Steve Biswell will officiate.
Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. and prior to services at the chapel.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Watertown.
Richard was born on December 25, 1947, in Webster, SD, to Victor and Dolores (Dunnigan) Fitting. Rich grew up and attended school in Waubay until 1963, when his family moved to Watertown.
Rich worked at various places including Halijan Janitorial, Hunters Inn, and the Wheel Inn. He worked in car detailing at Williamson Dodge Schnieder Albers and Sharp Chevrolet. Rich was self-employed for many years mowing lawns, moving snow, and painting houses inside and out.
Rich met his life partner Zona Gregerson in 1980. Together they helped care for his mother, his niece and nephews. He had a love for dogs, Skip, Teddy, and Troubles. They were his companions. Zona passed away in 2010. Rich continued to work part-time at Service Plus and retired from there.
Rich enjoyed going to the casino, country music concerts, and fishing at the Missouri River. He liked watching Tim Allan, Jim Carrey, Pet Detective, Red & Green, and game shows. Rich was a simple man with a heart of gold.
Richard is survived by his three brothers, Vic Jr. Fitting, of Lake Poinsett, Michael Fitting, of Blaine, MN, and Thomas (Linda) Fitting, of Watertown, SD; one sister, Allie Westrum of Watertown; three nieces, and seven nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; maternal & paternal grandparents; one brother, Walter; one sister, Susan; one sister-in-law, Diane; one nephew, Jimmy; and his life partner, Zona Gregerson.
