Richard (Dickey) Harvey Follis, born 02/02/1935 of Ozark, MO, formerly of Willard, MO, passed away on 05/22/2025 at the age of 90 and has joined his beloved wife of 64 years, Carol Lee Follis, in the sweet hereafter.
His accounting of his life almost always started from when he first met Carol while she was working as a car hop and he was cruising with his buddies. He was a quiet tinkerer who loved golf, tooling around in the garage, and watching westerns. He was dedicated and loyal to what he loved, family and hobbies included. You could almost always find him in his classic white sweatshirt, with a ball cap, toothpick, and comb in his back pocket. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he drove tanks for the general. A man of several professions, including police officer and Tastee-Freez owner operator, he ended his work career, retiring from managing the B.N.S.F. sheet metal shop, where some of his most treasured memories were fabricating the TCU horned frog horn and supporting the shop's Christmas for kids' program. When not working, Richard was an avid golfer and long-time Green Hills Country Club member. At home, he built Carol's ideas, coached his daughters' softball teams, and taught his son how to build and use various tools. He helped each kid fix up and maintain their first vehicles. Richard could always be counted on to lend a helping hand and use his hallmark turn of phrases.
He is survived by his daughters, Sheryl Cochran and Charlotte Follis; son, Tyler Follis, and grandchildren Megan and Ben Follis.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Carol; son, Rodney; uncle, Joseph Shipman; mother Maxine Shipman and father James Follis.
Graveside services with full military honors will be held at White Chapel Memorial Gardens Cemetery for family and friends on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Larry Ball officiating.
A Simple Legacy
By Charlotte Follis
Not a rich man, nor a poor man
Of life's struggles, he would not complain
His hands were so worn and calloused
Yet never seemed to cause him pain.
The simple joys were his life's rewards
A hard days work, never once in vain.
He never strayed off course,
Never once looked back,
And never sheltered from the rain.
Due diligence was his way of life
Remained steadfast along his way
He charted a course and stayed right on track
Therefore, his legacy shall always remain!
