Daniel Scobie Follis III of Grosse Pointe Park - Beloved husband, son, brother, and grandson, passed away on Sunday, May 25th at the age of 25.
Daniel, born on April 24, 2000, brought a very bright light into our world along with a sweet smile and the kindest heart. From a very young age, it was clear that Daniel embraced life and the people around him. He was curious, empathetic, gregarious and insightful. At Maire Elementary, when asked to share what he wanted to be when he grew up, Daniel proudly announced that he wanted to be a husband and a father. On February 14, 2025, he achieved one of these goals, as he and his love, Rowyn Follis (Kelly) of Atlanta, Georgia, were married in a beautiful private ceremony on a bridge over the Mill River in East Rock Park, New Haven, Connecticut.
Daniel was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 10, but he didn't let that slow him down. He was at his happiest when he was outdoors and exploring, whether it was among the industrial ruins of Detroit or in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
He was passionate about so many things: music, photography, art, cooking, skateboarding, snowboarding, sailing, fishing, camping, hiking and mountain biking, rock climbing and even surfing. He loved to compete and played sports of all kinds: hockey, baseball, basketball and golf. He was a certified scuba diver and enjoyed three family trips to St. John's to dive, snorkel and explore the Virgin Islands.
Daniel was pursuing a bachelor's degree with an emphasis on environmental studies. He began his college years at the school of art at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. He quickly found his people and rushed the Beta Tau chapter of Sigma Chi fraternity in his first semester at CSU.
Daniel never met an animal he didn't want to take home and nurture. He and Rowyn had two beautiful cats, Bryn and Casey Jones, a lizard named Trish and a fish called Kevin.
Daniel is survived by his wife (Rowyn), mother (Maureen), father (Dan), brother (Bailey), his family dog (Beau), his grandmothers (Judith Ann O'Meara and Mary Elizabeth Follis), aunts, uncles, cousins and countless other relatives and friends. Daniel was predeceased by his grandfathers (Daniel Scobie Follis and Robert Gene O'Meara).
A Celebration of Life in Daniel's honor will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10th at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club.
