Richard D. "Dick" Galloway ObituaryRichard D. "Dick" Galloway, Sr., 78
EAST LIVERPOOL – Richard D. Galloway, 78, of Y Camp Road, Lisbon, died on June 9th, 2025, in East Liverpool after a brief illness. He was known by many names, Richard, RD, Dick, and Richard Dennis to his mother and family. He was born February 3, 1947, in East Liverpool, a son of the late Richard J. and Marjorie Galloway. A graduate of East Liverpool High School in 1965, he obtained a bachelor degree in civil engineering from Youngstown State University. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Salem. He had an accomplished decades long career as a professional engineer and general contractor. He followed the philosophy that one must take risks to be successful, and these risks resulted in many career moves from Ohio to Kentucky and California. While he loved his career that allowed him to provide for his family, there was nothing he loved more than his late wife, Mary Beth (Fone) Galloway, who left his side for heaven on December 11, 2010. He loved her with all his being from the moment he saw her at a carnival in East Liverpool when they were 12 years old where he played hard to win her a kewpie doll from a game. He said she was the most beautiful girl in the world, and he knew they would eventually get married. His dream came true when they married on August 18, 1967. One can only hope to be loved as much as he loved Mary Beth.
He worked a full-time job to support his family while he obtained his engineering degree. He wanted to instill the ideals of dedication and commitment in his children. Dick took great pride that his son, Richard D. Galloway, Jr., followed in his footsteps, learning building and contracting skills from his dad at an early age and going on to own his own construction company. He was also proud of his daughter, Dr. Gretchen (Galloway) Nickell who went to college saying she wanted to be a doctor. Dick wouldn't tell anyone that until she actually got into medical school. Once she did, he managed to work that his daughter was a doctor into nearly every conversation. Dick had an unmatched work ethic which unfortunately caused him to miss some aspects of his children's earlier years. However, he was ever present in the lives and activities of his grandchildren, Dalton and Heath Nickell. He was present at the hospital when they were born, drove them to school every day, built them a monster mower and hosted them for sleepovers most weekends where he spoiled them with pizza and fast food. He was an avid classic car enthusiast and restored many cars over the years, including owning a classic car restoration business after he retired from his engineering career.
Survivors include his son Rick Galloway and his wife Shirley of Boadman, his daughter, Gretchen Nickell and her husband Duane of Lisbon, and his grandsons, Dalton and Heath. He is also survived by his sister, Vicki Deidrick, and her husband Larry of Columbiana, his brother Raymond Galloway and his wife Carol, of Columbus, his sister-in-law Terri Wooten and her husband, Jesse, of East Liverpool, and his aunt, Kay Probst, of Poland, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends may attend a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in East Liverpool at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday June 17th. All are welcomed to gather with the family at Dawson Family Center immediately following the Mass. Burial will take place at a later time at Columbiana County Memorial Park.
