Richard J. Gilbert, 81, passed away peacefully at his Danvers home on April 1, 2024.
He was born on April 26, 1942, in Cambridge to the late Clifford and Lela (O'Neil) Gilbert.
Richard's professional journey was diverse, reflecting his dedication and work ethic. He began his career at Polaroid before moving on to George T. Wilkinson in the boiler making business, then transitioning to roles such as custodian at St. Mary of the Annunciation School and machinist at Varian.
Even in retirement, he remained active, serving as a crossing guard for the town of Danvers.
Beyond his work, Richard had a passion for collecting records and antique cars. As a past president of the North Shore Old Car Club, he shared his enthusiasm for classic automobiles with fellow enthusiasts. He cherished time spent vacationing with his family in their motorhome, indulging in camping adventures and travel.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary E. (Lane) Gilbert, his sons Matthew of Easthampton and David and his wife Amy of Fort Collins, Colorado, his brother Clifford, and three grandchildren: Gretchen, Cody, and Andrew. He was predeceased by his son Patrick.
Funeral services will be private. Arrangements are by C.R. Lyons & Sons Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. Guestbook available at www.LyonsFuneral.com.
