Richard W. Green Jr., to many known as Rich, passed away peacefully after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer on September 7, 2025, in Middletown, NY, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 21, 1962, in Port Jervis, NY, Rich lived a life marked by devotion to his family and a passion for sports.

Rich's life was a testament to the power of love, family and commitment. His beloved wife, Kimberly Green, was his rock and his partner in life. Together, they created a legacy of love and laughter, beautifully continued by their children, Brittany (Paul) Duthoy, Stephanie Green, and Richard (RJ) Green. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Jameson and Adalyn Duthoy, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He is survived by his brother Steven (Dawn) Green, sister Valarie (Todd) Poynton and brother-in-law Robert Bingley, along with many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his father-in-law John Ackerson, sisters-in-law Danielle and Brooke Sorice and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Alberta Green, his mother-in-law Renate Sorice and his sister Cheryl Bingley.

Rich was a proud graduate of Minisink Valley High School, where his lifelong friendships began. He was a correctional officer for 34 years where he worked at Mid Orange and Otisville correctional facilities. After retirement he worked for the Town of Wallkill Dialup bus.

Beyond his professional life, Rich's interests painted the picture of a man who savored every moment. Rich enjoyed many things, whether he was on the golf course, at the bowling alley, fishing with his family, or playing softball. His love for sports was paralleled only by his passion for coaching. Rich guided young minds, especially his children in football, soccer, basketball, and baseball, instilling in them not just the skills of the game, but the virtues of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.

To have known Rich was to have known a man who lived fully and loved deeply. His life was a reminder that every day is a gift to be embraced with open arms and a full heart. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary man, let us carry forward his love and humor, celebrating each moment as he did and a smile that could light up the darkest of days.

Richard's family would like to thank the staff at Garnet Medical Center for their care during this difficult time.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 11 from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home (130 Highland Ave, Middletown, NY). Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 12 at 10 am, followed by a burial at the family plot at Wallkill Cemetery (160 Midway Rd, Middletown, NY). In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Middletown Humane Society in his name.
