Richard E. Hansen III passed away November 25th, 2022 peacefully at his home after a long and very brave battle with cancer. He was born in New Haven, CT on October 10, 1951, to Richard and Muriel (Fowler) Hansen. He is survived by his loving wife Susan, three sons, Richard IV, Hans-Peter and his wife Nicole, Wesley and his wife Janette and six grandchildren: Richard V, Hans Peter, Kayley, Harrison, Liam, and Madeleine. He attended LaSalette Minor Seminary, Xavier High School and the University of Connecticut.

Rich devoted himself to his work in electrical transmission and distribution for over 50 years. He began as a meter-reader for CL&P and proudly served as a lineman before moving into the utility's operations, systems, and construction management. He led the restoration of power and infrastructure in the aftermath of many national emergencies throughout several states, where he served as Base Commander. The men and women he worked with became a second family for him where their safety was always his priority, earning a distinguished service award in this area. After his retirement from Northeast Utilities, he continued to serve as a subcontractor and consultant sharing his knowledge and passion with others.

Most importantly, Rich was a devout Christian and often drew from and guided others to Faith throughout life's challenges. His only hobby was his family, and he delighted his children and grandchildren with his funny stories and lessons. He would always be sure to include the phrase “Strength and Honor” in parting; words he exemplified.

The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Byrne, the nurses at the Cancer Center, and the Franciscan hospice team for the excellent care Rich received.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Rich's memory may be made to Franciscan Hospice Care, 267 Finch Ave, Meriden, CT 06451.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Saint Bridget of Sweden Parish, 175 Main St, Cheshire, CT 06410. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Plantsville Funeral Home has been entrusted with handling the arrangements. Rich & I first met in Meriden at Cl&P. The first time I met Rich was when I pick him up hitchhiking to work with a fellow worker. He had said that their wife´s needed their cars. Ever since that time Rich & I had remain close friends. He was a special guy always proud of his family´s accomplishments. He was quite a philosopher, & boy could he talk. Rich will always be remembered but not forgotten.
