Richard James Harubin, 81, of Chesapeake, VA, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025, with his family's love surrounding him. Born on April 6, 1944, in Northampton, MA, to Virginia Royce and Rupart Harubin, Richard grew into a man with a genuine zest for life, a warm smile, and a heart that always had room for others.

Richard was the kind of person who found joy in the simple things - a good book, a sunny bike ride, a round of golf with friends, and, most of all, anything to do with basketball. Whether playing the game in his younger years or cheering it on from the sidelines, basketball was more than a hobby for him - it was a lifelong passion.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves before beginning his career with the University of Massachusetts, where his hard work and dedication left a lasting mark.

To his family, he was simply "Grandpa Richard" - a loving, supportive presence whose pride in them was boundless. He leaves behind his loving wife, Janice R. M. Blair-Harubin; his sister, Patricia Hoyniski; his uncle, Walter Harubin; his daughter, Beth Harubin; and his stepdaughter, Beth Blair. He was "Grandpa Richard" to five grandchildren - RJ, Bryce, Gaige, Cassius, and Illyana - and a loving great-grandfather to Blair and Alaya. He also leaves behind his cherished niece and nephew, Christie and Jeff.

And then there was Remy - his "Rem Dog!" - the faithful companion he loved to the moon. The bond between Richard and Remy was one of pure joy, and his loyal dog was always by his side.

Those who knew Richard will remember his kindness, his sense of humor, and the way he made everyone feel welcome. He was a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and left the world a better place just by being in it.

In keeping with Richard's wishes, there will be no service. His life will be celebrated in the hearts and memories of all who loved him.
