Ruby Bell Thomas, age 88, passed away peacefully in her home in Chesapeake, VA on July 25, 2025.

Ruby Thomas was born in Kingston, WV to a coal miner and grew up in Oakhill, WV. She served in the U.S. Navy for four years, then met James "Jim" Thomas and they were married in 1956 by a Navy Chaplain in Bremerton, Washington. She then decided to stay home and raise her beloved sons, and was the best mother to Mark and Donald.

When the winters rolled in, there was no keeping Ruby up north. She went down to Florida every winter after retirement. She was a proud member of People's Baptist Church in Chesapeake. She was strong in her faith and every morning she began her day in quiet reflection reading her bible. She truly lived and modeled her beliefs.

Ruby is now reunited in Heaven with her parents, Wyley and Mary Miller, and her beloved son Donald Thomas. Left to cherish her memory is her husband of nearly 70 years, James Thomas; her son, Mark Thomas; grandsons, James Z. Thomas and Mark L. Thomas; and great grandchildren Mark C. Thomas and Jenae G. Thomas.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 31 at 11am at Hollomon-Brown, Great Bridge Chapel with a burial to follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends at 10am. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
