Rich was born on May 5, 1966. He suddenly passed away at home on Saturday, November 29, 2025.

Rich touched countless people in countless ways. His warm, outgoing personality could fill a room, and he loved a good conversation, whether with lifelong friends or someone he had just met. He would go out of his way to make sure others felt welcome or had support during any obstacle they may be enduring. As a father, he was a remarkable role model, showing his children every day what it meant to treat others with kindness and respect. His legacy is, above all else, a legacy of love.

Rich was the devoted son of late Stanley and Sabina—both from Poland—and he embraced his heritage proudly throughout his life. His childhood memories were shaped by Polish Boy Scouts, and he loved speaking the language with his family. To his aunts, uncles, and cousins, he was affectionately known as Rysiu. Among many dear friends, his brother, Dave, stood at the very center of his life—his partner in laughter and often the one he could cry with most freely.

Professionally, Rich built a respected three-decade career in the mortgage industry. He was known for his integrity, his leadership, and his deep knowledge of the business. Many friendships were formed along the way, and he took great pride in helping people achieve the dream of homeownership—often sharing those successes at the dinner table with joy.

To his children—Michael, Dave, Tim, and Elyza—Rich was unwaveringly present. Whether coaching hockey from the bench, cheering from the glass, or watching his daughter’s incredible tumbling routines, he was always there. The pride in his eyes was unmistakable as he watched each of them grow and shine. He was equally joyful in welcoming Michael’s wife, Kate, and Dave’s wife, Marissa, into the family, embracing them wholeheartedly as part of “Team Hass.” In recent years, his grandsons, James and William, were among his greatest delights. He adored watching their daily Snapchat updates—often replaying them again and again.

Rich shared a profound and enduring love with his soulmate, Cyndy, throughout their 33 years of marriage. Together they traveled for hockey tournaments, cheer events, and new adventures across the country, always eager to discover and learn. Boating was a special joy for them—whether on a peaceful lake or bar-hopping by boat in Florida, Rich always had a smile on his face. To Cyndy’s family, Rich was a fun and loving brother-in-law, deeply cherished for his kindness and his love of laughter.

In the last four years, Rich dedicated himself to a fierce and heartfelt mission: finding every possible path toward healing for his son Dave’s brain cancer. Every day, he searched for new treatments, advancements, and clinical trials—fighting with hope, determination, and a father’s boundless love.

Rich’s spirit, warmth, and love will be forever missed and forever remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing him.

Rich was the beloved husband of 33 years to Cyndy Hass; loving father of Mike (Kate) Hass;, Dave (Marissa) Hass, Tim Hass, Elyza Hass; cherished grandfather of James and William Hass; fond brother of Dave Hass, and Krystina Hass; dear nephew of Alecia (the late Frank) Tomczyk and John Fedor; cousins, Liz (Angus), and Barb, Margie (Rob), Basia, Adam, and Sandy. He was also a fond uncle to many nieces and nephews. Rich also valued Cyndy’s thoughts and opinions immensely, showing her deep respect and devotion in every stage of their life together. Additionally, he is survived by Cyndy’s siblings, Jeff (Claudia), Gwen (Mike), Steve, and Dave (Lisa).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Brain Cancer Society or The Purple Plunge of Lake Zurich.
