Richard J. Hassett passed away peacefully at Salemhaven Nursing Home in Salem, New Hampshire, on Monday, September 15, 2025, at the age of 92. Richard was the cherished husband of Ruth A. (Habeeb) Hassett. Born on May 31, 1933, in Thompsonville, CT, Richard was the son of the late Frank and Alice Hassett. A proud communicant of Mary Queen of Peace Church in Salem, he lived his faith with grace and dedication, finding comfort in being a devout Catholic. Following his graduation from high school, Richard enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country with pride. He later earned his master's degree from Tufts University, graduating with high honors and serving as class president. Richard went on to work at Wyman Elementary School, where he served as Principal until his retirement. Richard had a deep love for travel, especially to his favorite destination, Aruba, with his beloved wife, Ruth. He enjoyed working outdoors in his yard and treasured the time spent with his sister, Anne, and his late brother, Frank. He also shared a special bond with his loving children, his late son, Richard J. Hassett Jr., Paul, and Rebecca; as well as with his many nieces and nephews, all of whom he cared for deeply and loved dearly. Above all, Richard's heart belonged to his family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Richard J. Hassett Jr.; and four siblings, William Hassett, Francis Hassett, James Hassett, and Michael Hassett. He leaves behind his adored wife, Ruth A. Hassett; children, Paul Hassett and his wife, Ellen, Rebecaa Bunnell and her husband, Steve, Jeffrey E. Chaisson and his wife, Pamela, and Cheryl A. Chaisson; cherished granddaughter, Nicole Chaisson; and many extended family and friends. Relatives and friends are warmly invited to celebrate his extraordinary life at calling hours from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Mary Queen of Peace Church, 200 Lawrence Road, Salem, NH, with burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
