Richard D. "Dick" Hoffmann, age 96, of Northfield, died early Monday, October 13, 2025, in Chicago. Devoted son of the late Hubert and Louise, née Dittmar, Hoffmann, he was born July 22, 1929, in Evanston.
Veteran, U.S. Army, Paratrooper.
Member, International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 150.
Dick was 96 years old, and until this summer he was still shoveling snow, mowing the grass, and working in the yard. He was the happiest when he was kept busy, spending time with his family, and traveling the world with his wife. He will be truly missed.
Beloved husband of Theresa, née Brida, for 73 years; dear father of Hubert "Hugh" III and the late Craig D.; loving grandfather of Francisca (Ryan Thornburgh), Chelsea (Doug Fruin), and Grant (fiancée, Mackenzie Pelesky); cherished great-grandfather of Eleanor and Graham Thornburgh; fond brother of the late Rosemary Hoffmann and Lois Welter.
Funeral services are private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Pl., Memphis, TN, 38105 (stjude.org).

what a wonderful guy. special years on vacation in Mexico and travels to england and new zealand. many phone calls etc. happy memories ofcourse.
