Richard Louis "Dick" Hollar

Richard "Dick" Louis Hollar, age 87, of Comstock passed December 10, 2025 at Cumberland Healthcare. He was born in Portsmouth, VA to Seymour Robert "Bob" and Kathryn (Epple) Hollar.
Dick was a graduate in the Class of 1956 at Southside High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. During his senior year, he was working as an attendant at the local gas station. Luckily for Agnes, her girlfriend's car routinely needed oil, and she was always along for the ride. Dick and Agnes hit it off, and the rest is history.
Following high school, Dick went on to receive his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University, followed later by an MBA. This knowledge would later blossom into a successful professional career as a Design Engineer for various large manufacturing companies in the Upper Midwest, including International Harvester, Harley-Davidson, and Coleman Powermate, just to name a few. He was also a long-standing board member of the Society of Automotive Engineers.
With the various job opportunities came many moves for Dick and Agnes, and their three kids. It was not until his retirement years that he made the Cumberland area his longest-held home.
After settling here in their retirement home, Dick strove to make change, organizing the Pipe Lake Association, and then serving as president for 10 years. His efforts helped to assess and improve the water quality of Pipe Lake and North Pipe Lake. It comes as no surprise, then, that he loved boating and fishing, and spending time with his family. He also loved to golf - so much so that he spent 25 years working at the Cumberland Golf Course, first as a ranger and then as a starter. In addition to golf, he loved to play cards, his favorite game being Euchre. As much as they loved this area, Dick and Agnes also loved to winter in Florida, which they have enjoyed doing for many, many years.
Dick's determined and, dare we say, "stubborn" personality will be lovingly missed by his wife, of 65 years, Agnes; children, Linda (Scott) Raether, Philip (Lynn) Hollar, and Daniel (Jenni) Hollar; grandchildren, Mathew (Julia) Hollar, Alyssa (Josh) Portz, Michael Hollar, Jenna Raether (Jake Rutkowski), Meghan (Alex) Pecoraro, Andrew Hollar, and Jack Hollar; and great-grandchildren, Grady, Hadley, Raelynn, Brooks, and Ella.
A Memorial Mass is being planned for the Spring. More details will follow.
