Richard Allen Hoyt, better known as Rick, was born on November 29, 1965, in Corning, NY, and was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on November 2, 2025. He was a dedicated, faithful and loving husband to his wife, Lori, whom he married on September 22, 1990, and a devoted father to their two children, Tyler and Emma.
Rick was a man of many talents and interests. He spent 17 years employed as a Senior Technician in the Fiber Optics industry, where his creativity and dedication were recognized with several monetary awards and a pending patent. Despite his professional accomplishments, Rick was also a generous soul, who found joy in volunteering and helping others. He was a member of the Gideons and served at his local church. A lover of music, Rick composed songs in a wide variety of styles and played in Christian bands. He also had a talent for painting, with landscapes and forests being his favorite subjects. Rick's love for Jesus Christ was evident in all he did, from a mission trip to Nepal, to supporting missionaries and giving money to those in need. Rick's faith, family, friends, and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ were the cornerstones of his life.
Rick leaves behind a legacy of love and faith. He is survived by his wife, Lori; his children, Tyler (Jasmin Mack) Hoyt and Emma Hoyt; and his siblings: Darlene Scherf, Jon Hoyt, Michael Hoyt, and Melissa Loftis. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Jenni Hoyt. Rick was a loving, funny, creative, generous, and dedicated man who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In the words of the Apostle Paul, "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21). Rick lived this verse daily, and now he is enjoying the gain of being in the presence of his Savior.
Calling Hours will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 10-11am at First Baptist Church, 2293 Grand Central Avenue, Horseheads, NY 14845, with a Funeral Service to follow at 11am, with Pastor Toby Locke officiating. Burial will be held in West Hill Cemetery in Hornby, NY at the family's convenience.
We invite you to share your memories of Rick and upload photos to his memorial page. Rick's life was full of love, laughter, and faith, and we look forward to celebrating his life with you by reflecting on these shared memories.

A memory!!! My first was after a snow storm when Rick,Lori and Emma came to Virginia Bells home to shovel her driveway. They had to park in the street. My driveway was mostly done and I offered Rick my driveway to park on. He and Lori came over and helped finish mine so they could park their car on my driveway. While shoveling Rick and Lori picked on each other making me laugh and then I expressed my concern about Lori´s mom walking to her mailbox using a metal yardstick to help her in not losing her balance while measuring the snow on her way! Lori gave me her cell number in case I ever witnessed something happened to her while doing something that could cause her to fall or get hurt, Rick immediately added his number too! He showed me that day his sense of humor, he jumped into action helping with driveways and how much he cared for the loved ones in his family.
Years later the Hoyt family started attending our church, we have had a lot of laughs in that back section of the sanctuary. The arms around each other as that sat side by side with a little extra coaxing! How they each reach over to "fix" each other´s hair! Rick´s black shirt that he wore one church service which had me bring something to add to it, private joke, but it was funny! Rick always knew how to make people laugh and smile. He´ll be so missed in our little back corner but I have some fond memories.
My thoughts and prayers go to Lori, Tyler and Emma and their families.
Love to you all, Debbie Clevenstine
