Richard Charles Irwin, a long-time resident of Potsdam NY, passed away October 16, 2025 at the age of 91 years old.
Richard was born February 9, 1934, Plattsburgh, NY to Anna (Wiggins) Irwin and Richard C. Irwin of Peru, NY.
Surviving him is his wife of 68 years, Patricia Ladue Mehan and loving daughters and their husbands, Tonia (Bill) Omeltchenko of Port Washington, N.Y., and Tresa (Philip) Cerne of Guanacaste, Costa Rica and "other daughter," Mary (Ed) Gooshaw of Madrid, N.Y. Richard was pre-deceased by daughter Tammy Jean Irwin in 1968.
Richard also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren, Nicholas (partner Paige), Morgan, Nathaniel (Samantha), and Madeline (Michaela), Mariah (Josh), and great-granddaughter, Genevieve.
Richard came from a family of 9 children. He is survived by siblings Bruce (Lorraine) and Dale (Suzanne). Deceased are Frank, Nate, Mildred, June, Beverly, Colleen.
Richard was a graduate of Peru Central School, Plattsburgh State University, and St. Lawrence University Masters program.
His professional career included serving as Elementary School Principal, Guidance Director and Pupil Services Administrator.
He was a military veteran, having served in U.S. Army Intelligence.
Arrangements are private and under the care and guidance of the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam, NY, where friends may share memories and offer condolences online at www.donaldsonseymour.com.
A graveside committal service will be held for Richard when Patricia is ready to join him in their eternal home; Trinity Episcopal Church officiating.
