Richard (Dick) Allan Keitz, 95, of Columbus, Ohio passed away on Jan. 29, 2025. Dick was born in St. Louis, Mo. in 1929 to the late Julius and Irma Keitz and had two older brothers, Donald and Robert.
Dick was an accomplished graduate of Grandview High. As a freshman, Dick served as Class President and ran track. During his senior year, he was President of the Leaders Club and Vice President of the "Brotherhood of Rooks," high school fraternity. He also played football all four years, during which he received three varsity letters and was captain during his senior year. Dick was honored for his athletic contributions, becoming a member of Grandview's Hall of Fame.
Following his time at Grandview, Dick studied at Denison University, playing football for two years under the then young coach Woody Hayes. After Denison, he worked for Nationwide Insurance Company in the Claims division for 40 years and served as President of the Columbus Claims Club.
Dick is survived by his wife of 73 years, Shirley Jane Thomas Keitz, his son Dale and daughter-in-law Monique Huntington, his daughter Nan and son-in-law Chuck Fowler, and four adult grandchildren.
Dick will be celebrated as an amazing husband, father and grandfather. He was a perpetual student of history and loved reading and strategic card games. His love of sports also continued beyond his education as he enjoyed watching college football games and was a prolific golfer, spending many days at Ohio State University golf course. He even made a hole-in-one at 88 years old! His sharp-mind and kind soul will be missed and cherished.
Memorial service information will be released at a later date.
