Of Forest Hills, age 83, died on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Forbes Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Beloved husband of Carol (Pribanic) Kerfoot for 49 wonderful years.
Treasured father of Derek (Natalie) Kerfoot of Churchill, and Lesley (Tylar) Hawkins of Murrysville.
Loving grandfather of Kendall and Reagan Hawkins.
Preceded in death by his parents Howard and Margaret (Harr) Kerfoot and his sister Leilani Kerfoot.
Richard was a proud graduate of McKeesport Area High School class of '59. He honorably served in the Army Reserves. His professional life was dedicated to the Wilkinsburg-Penn Joint Water Authority, where he worked as an inspector until his retirement. Growing up, Richard enjoyed playing baseball, and later in life enjoyed playing slow pitch softball with his friends. His formative years were filled with the sounds of his trumpet as he participated in the marching band, sharing his love for music with friends, family, and the community. He was a proud Pittsburgh sports fan who loved cheering on the Pirates and Steelers. Richard's sense of humor was one of his most endearing qualities, bringing light and laughter to those around him. He was a proud member of the Wilkins Elks #577, where he found fellowship and community. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was an active participant in the First Christian Church in McKeesport. Generations of his family had attended the church, and Richard continued this tradition, serving as both a Deacon and a Church Elder. Above all, Richard cherished the time spent with his grandchildren. Whether attending their activities, sharing stories, or simply being present in their lives, he was a constant source of love and guidance. Richard constantly expressed the immense pride he felt for his loving family.
Friends welcome Friday 2-8 p.m. at the Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 700 Linden Ave. at Cable Ave., East Pittsburgh, 412-824-8800 where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Richard will be laid to rest at Restland Cemetery.
