Richard Lucas Obituary

In Loving Memory of Richard Lee Lucas

Richard Lee Lucas, 78, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 6, 1946, in Iowa City, IA, to Richard Layton and Mary Frances Lucas.

Richard proudly served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969, receiving an honorable discharge. His love for craftsmanship and creativity shone through in his lifelong hobby of building model cars, a passion that brought him joy for many years. Richard was also a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers, and his enthusiasm for the game was contagious.

A long-time member of City First Church in Rockford, Richard cherished his faith and the strong connections he made within his church community.

He leaves behind his two beloved children, Julie Loredo and Timothy Lucas, along with his 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Richard was a cherished brother to Carol Ann Benac (John), Sharon Thiltgen, Rose Moore, Rexanne Zanoni (Kevin Brickson), and Larry Main (Norleen), and a special uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was also blessed with the enduring friendship of Frank Luque, a friendship that spanned many years.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Layton Lucas and Mary Frances Lucas, as well as his grandparents, Ted and Ruth Broshar. He was also preceded in death by his niece, Heather Zanoni, and his brother-in-law, John Benac.

Richard's wishes were to forgo traditional funeral services. His ashes will be lovingly laid to rest alongside his father in Michigan and with his mother in Iowa, where he will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him.

Richard will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his kindness, his love of family, and the simple pleasures that brought him joy throughout his life.
