On March 11, 2024, surrounded by family and close friends, Richard Lewis Manley passed away at home at the age of sixty years old. He was preceded in death by his father John L. Manley and his brother Dennis Guess. Rich graduated from Winnetonka High school in 1982 and spent many years as a delivery driver. He then went to work for Pro Balance Inc., with his cousin Robert Flint as an HVAC and Balance Technician. When he was in his thirties, Rich decided to follow in his father's footsteps and become a member of the Masonic Lodge.
In 2006, Rich started a battle with cancer. With his family and friends cheering him on, he fought until he received his wings and let the good Lord call him home, after fighting for 18 years.
Rich loved his music; he could name songs and bands like no one's business. He loved playing the guitar for anybody that wanted to hear him play. He played in several bands throughout his life, Hemlock, Frixion, Loner, and his favorite band was Steel Web. And it was always a heartwarming time when he could sit and play with his father. Rich also loved to play pool, he and his best friend John Irving could hold a pool table all night of the week.
Rich leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Nancy A. Manley, of Kansas City, three young ladies that were like daughters to him, Amber Ryan, Cindy Jensen, Stephanie Provence, his mother Nancy Collins of Kansas City, brother Gene Guess of Pleasant Valley and his wonderful sister Ellen Buchan of Gladstone. Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and a lot of amazing friends.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for later this spring. Richard's final resting place will be in the ocean off the coast of Florida.
The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to help in honor of Richard's favorite quote. "F#*k Cancer!" Donations can be made by scanning the QR code below.
