Richard Thomas McCarthy was born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan to Richard J. and Mable McCarthy. Rich passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at Troy Beaumont (Corewell) Hospital in Troy, Michigan at the age of 63.
Rich retired as a Design Engineer working primarily on tail light and brake light design for SL America.
When he wasn't working Rich was a fantasy football nut. Starting with leagues at work and quickly transitioning to leagues primarily of his family members he would study player stats for hours getting his information for his fantasy draft from sources like XM Radio and various internet sights. His fantasy team always had the word 'SUNSHINE' in it...coincidentally he would often rain on the parade of the teams that he was playing that week with his expert draft choices and prime roster postings.
Rich was also deeply into his own health. Eating right and working out became his go to. He would also encourage those that he loved to make sure that they keep moving in order to maintain their own health.
Football season wasn't the only season that Rich shined in however. Rich and Denise had a pool and would often entertain friends and family at the house where Rich would often be found partying and dancing with those in attendance of one his summer parties.
Rich found the love of his life when he met Denise at a workshop at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church. Rich and Denise shared over 10 years as a married couple. They would often vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico...their vacation resort became their happy place. When Rich wasn't spoiling Denise with trips to the Mexican Pacific coast he would be spoiling her with flowers and gifts and attending wine tastings with her. He was always first a gentleman participating in long lost customs of holding doors for the ladies and assisting everywhere he could...He was truly one of a kind.
Above all else though, Rich's number 1 job was being a great dad and grandpa. His grandkids were the light of his life and they brought great joy to his days.
Rich is the beloved husband of 10 years of Denise. Loving father of Richard T. (Ashley) McCarthy and Danielle (Eric) Hutchinson and loving step father of Jeffrey (Jaclyn) Hirschmann, Kenneth (Taylor) Hirshmann, and Jaclyn (Robert) Fortier. Very proud grandpa of Mackenzie, Makayla, Bella, Cameron, Sonny, Rena, Henry, Remi, Finley, Reagan, and Parker. Rich is further survived by his brothers and sisters, numerous nieces and nephews as well as his mother in law Esther Haddad, sister in law Charlene (Joe) Abbate, and many dear friends.

A true friend that opened his home to everyone, my best memories with Rich were Saturday mornings in August. Fantasy football draft at Rich's house. Pizza, subs and cold soda's along with all the guys by the pool. The highlight of my summers. You will be missed.
