Richard Andrew Melton, 77, of Francisco, Indiana, passed on March 12, 2026, from his long fight with cancer and black lung. Richard passed at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born on April 26, 1949, in Evansville, Indiana, to the late Andrew and Esther (Sickman) Melton.

Richard was a member of the Masonic Lodge 467 in Oakland City, Indiana for over 40 plus years, he was a member of the UMWA Local 4343. Richard was a welder and owned his own welding shop for many years. Richard retired from Old Ben Coal Mine after 30 plus years of employment. Richard enjoyed camping in his free time and loved to spend time with his loving family. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and cared for him.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy (York) Melton; his children, Brian (Lori) Melton, Julie Beard; his grandchildren, LeeAnn Melton, Brandon Bond; his great grandchild; Benny Bond; and his sisters Linda (Jim) Brace, Carol Wirth.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Sandy Melton; his son Tracy Melton; and his sisters, Catherine "Kate" Melton-Davis, Barbara Fleenor.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 16, 2026, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, with the service starting at 1:00 pm. A burial will follow at Little Zion Cemetery in Union, Indiana. Pastor David Duke will be officiating. A masonic service will be held at the beginning of the funeral service.

Brian and Lori, I am sorry to learn about the passing of your Dad. I have some good memories of your parents, both professionally and personally. I always enjoyed watching them line dance when they were well enough to do so. Take care and except our sincere condolences. Barb and Randy
