Richard Miller Obituary

Richard Allan Miller age 76, of Nevis, MN passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 24, 2025. Richard "Dick" Miller was

born in Minneapolis, MN to Margaret (Cameron) and Alfred Miller on January 2, 1949. He was raised on the Iron Range which he loved dearly, where he met the love of his life Judith "Judy" Vicari Miller in the 8th grade. They graduated high school together and were later married in Chisholm on June 20, 1970.

"Dick" was a beloved, dedicated, and selfless husband, father, Papa, brother, uncle, friend, coach, teacher, and volunteer. He spent over 15 years in the Army National Guard, trained in Fort Knox, KY, a dedicated reservist at Camp Ripley in Little Falls, MN, and later honorably discharged. Richard received his AA degree from Hibbing Community College, his BS degree from St. Cloud State University, and his Masters in Education from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul. Dick was also a hockey Dad, to two boys 9 years apart. He did it twice, over 20 years of rink time, astonishing! "Mr. Miller" was a beloved St. Cloud educator for over 35 years, and spent most years teaching the 5th grade. Upon retirement at 55, Dick and Judy found their tranquil oasis at Wildwood Pointe on Deer Lake outside of Nevis. A place where the loons dance, the owls hoot, and the summer sun shines long. Dick found his place volunteering as a kinship reading buddy in the Nevis schools and spent thousands of hours helping at the ACU desk at CHI St. Joseph's Hospital in Park Rapids. He also enjoyed working alongside Judy and owner Tom Paulson at Moose Creek in downtown Park Rapids, where his connection with the community grew deeper.

Papa had eyes that sparkled and a heart that beamed. He was kind and patient with everyone, and an amazing listener. He hummed a special tune through life, loving nature and being at the lake, while enjoying all things sweet, and solving the world's problems with a good late night chat. He cherished his family and friends, his critters, his life. We were all so very lucky to

know him and be loved by him.

Richard is survived by his wife Judith (Vicari) Miller of Nevis, MN, sons, Ben (Jamie) Miller of Maple Grove, MN, and Nate (Alexia Netter) Miller of Duluth, MN, 3 grandchildren Livia & Carter of Maple Grove, MN and Charlie of Duluth, MN, sister Karen (Gary) Salminen of St. Paul, MN, brother Tim (Joan) Miller of Sartell, MN, brother Todd (Mary) Miller of St. Cloud, MN, brother/sister-in-law Jerry and Pat Vicari of St. Cloud, MN, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Margaret and Alfred Miller.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 19, 2025 at Cease Funeral Home in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation 12-1:30 pm, service at 1:30 pm, and luncheon immediately to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in his memory either to CHI St. Joseph's Health Foundation or the Headwaters Animal Shelter in Park Rapids, MN.
